Improving Slack Event Post Unfurl Appearance and Content Issues

·
·

Not sure how much control you have other this, if any. But the unfurls of event posts that you get when referencing a post by including a link in the chat look pretty bad. They don’t include the image, just the name of the image and key details are missing/hidden. Is there anything you can do here or is it all on Slack’s end?

I might not be getting this clear. You’re creating a Tightknit event that has a link to a post in Slack. When the event is published to Slack, the post unfurls in the message. Does that sound right? Would the preference be for no unfurling in the message? (We can control that) If you have a screenshot, that might also be helpful so I can wrap my head around this

I’ve created an event in Tightknit and it has been posted to a channel. I’m then referencing that post in another Slack message later and it looks like:

So, I’d like to see a nice lil image of the event thumbnail and it include the date and maybe the ‘i’m in’ button but it shows nothing of use. It also shouldn’t say Tightknit but the community name like the original post does.

Gotcha! Okay I’ll see what is possible but I think we should be able to do something here to improve it

Hey Gareth, I've raised this issue with the Slack engineering team since July. Unfortunately, there's been no movement. To word it another way:

When linking to another Slack message from within Slack, the attachment preview does not respect the original message's author name nor meaningfully show any inline images.

Gareth Wilson To provide a potential workaround, what if you were to post the event in the channel in which you shared it through our publish settings?

Thanks for the context there Stephen and for looking into this, Zach.

Posting to the channel isn’t quite what I’m after - it’s more giving context to something I’m mentioning in a thread or similar. But I can link and just not include the unfurl and add the thumbnail myself too.

Thanks for clarifying. Ya this is an unfortunate situation with Slack. I’ll see if I can follow up with the Slack team again and push on this. It’s odd how it works today

Stephen Cook just notified me the Slack team responded to his inquiry. For transparency, here’s where we stand:

At this time the investigation by our engineering team is ongoing and I’m afraid I don’t have a timeline on a fix just yet. We have an internal bug tracker and your request is attached to the specific bug investigation, but it isn’t accessible for external users, I do apologize for that.

As soon as we get word from them, we’ll let you know!
