I love the event registration function, but it would be a great option to add a second "Join" button for virtual events with a webhook for clicks of that button specifically. We're trying to track who actually shows up and this would really streamline things for both us and our members.
Lauren D., trying to understand the intent behind the request. The issue today is that we only have the Register button (this could link to a Luma/SplashThat/Our own registration). However, you’re looking for another button called Join that would link to a Google Meet/Zoom/Other webinar solution. Am I understanding this correctly?
Lauren D. I was just chatting with Stephen C. about this and it only led to more questions than answers 😆 classic. Would you have time to connect with us for us to ask a few more clarifying questions?
I’ll shoot you a dm to schedule
Following up here since we've launched events via Tightknit to our community. We're getting a lot of feedback that members are frustrated about not being able to join a call directly from Tightknit in Slack. If it were possible to log "attendance" based on who clicks on the Zoom link during the call time, it would be HUGE for us. Just wanted to mention that even with the registration webhook and confirmation emails it's a big point of friction for members.
AMAZING feedback Lauren D.. Okay let me mark this down. I see two asks:
“able to join a call directly from Tightknit in Slack”
“If it were possible to log “attendance” based on who clicks on the Zoom link during the call time, it would be HUGE for us”
I assume #1 is the biggest priority at the moment? Just want to make sure we can deliver both but on a timeline that makes sense. I’ll put these in as tickets and try to get you at least the first one by next week
Thanks Zach! We have to log attendance, so #2 is really the key part, actually. As it stands right now, we could put a zoom link in Tightknit as the "location" but that doesn't log their email address for attendance purposes. So we have it set that they have to register with Zoom before they can join, which is where the friction is happening. People don't enjoy having to look for the confirmation email, unfortunately!
I think in Luma the way they handle this is to wrap the link with their own URL so they can track clicks, and then they redirect to reg form prior to the event and then to the event itself during.
Thanks for the info Gareth W.! We might even be able to provide more context since we have the user pressing the button here in Slack. Good for a follow up story. Just FYI Lauren D., I have this as a top 3 task for us this next cycle. Thank you for the details and for chatting with me yesterday. I think a lot of teams will enjoy this feature.
To close this out. This is now built into the new API for updating an attendee’s registration. I’ll be meeting with Lauren to get this configured for her community, but if anyone is interested in learning more, you know where to find me! https://api.tightknit.dev/reference#tag/calendar-events/PATCH/admin/v0/calendar_events/{calendar_event_id}/attendees
