Engaging Community Partners: Ideas for User Identification Badges

We are looking to reach out to our partners to have them more involved in the community, and after talking to my legal team, I would like a way to identify users in the community. Badges come to mind here, but I’m not sure that is the way to go. Ideally, I’d be able to see in your profile picture or your name some sort of identifier of whether you are in a startup, a partner, or a product manager, etc. This helps me know who I am talking to in the community and what other people they want to connect with. Anyone got any ideas or have done this successfully?

Would be interested to hear how others do this, but I do have one follow-up question: Would these identifiers be available publicly (as in all members can see them) or would these identifiers just be internal (admin-only)?

In a past role we utilized Common Room and could tag members or add them to segments allowing us to identify who we were talking to. Slack itself, especially the free version, is limited here.

Two options with Tightknit at least:

Profile Fields

Badges
Profile Fields will let your users add/update themselves but are sometimes difficult to find for others. The profile fields also show on that user’s Tightknit forum profile. Badges will let users show off a badge frame (this is opt-in) but will be the easiest to spot as it won’t require opening a user’s profile to see them. Badges are a coming soon addition to the Tightknit forum profile. --- We are considering another option in the future called “reserved statuses” where we track what users are using emoji statues, but it would require us first to build our moderation tooling since we expect this system to be abused.
