Feedback Needed: Choose Your Preferred Filter Layout for Event Tags

·
·

Our team is actively working on a new feature for events called “Tags” and “Tag Groups” You can think of Tags as various ways to segment your Events in Tightknit. Examples:

  • Tag Group: Region. Tags: AMER, EU, APAC

  • Tag Group: Type. Tags: Webinar, AMA, Panel

Now, one of our decisions is laying out the filters in the Events panel. It’s minor UX, but these decisions stack up over time. Wanted to get the community’s opinion on which one you prefer: 1️⃣ is a stacked approach. The pros are it’s well-labeled, the cons are that it pushes more of the event data below the fold 2️⃣ is a horizontal approach. The pros are it’s limited in size, the cons are that it potentially is unclear what it controls. Pick your favorite, please! tightknit-otter Choose 1️⃣ or 2️⃣

Tag Group is the category. Tags are the selection. Here’s what that allows you to do as a customer:

I want to split up my events so that members who are marketers with 20 years of experience in the manufacturing industry know what events to attend.

Tag Groups: Role, Experience Level, Industry Tags:

    • Role: Marketer, Product, Engineer

    • Experience Level, 0-5, 5-10, 10+

    • Industry: ecommerce, manufacturing, high tech

🎉 🎉 🎉 Would love to see what that dropdown looks like if you had multiple tag groups. We'd likely just have one group "Event Type" with multiple tags.

Wouldn’t you have a filter for tag groups and tags then?

Joel P. You're totally right, the screenshots aren't explaining the tag groups very well. We have two options to address multiple tag groups: 1) Have a dropdown per tag group, e.g. Filter by Region + Filter by Industry. Potentially this could result in multiple dropdown elements. 2) Squash the combined tags of all groups into the options of a single dropdown. Slack lets you group options together under a label, so we can still organize them by the Tag Group (see screenshot below).

That’d be a scary drop-menu experience once your program is robust. I love the thought probably would prefer a way to chose your own adventure that’s focused on what I’m trying to achieve vs an extensive drop-down menu scrolling experience.
