If you’ve wondered why you should build SEO for your Slack community, here’s a view into Tightknit’s March data. ➡️ Today, 70% of all traffic to our customers’ Tightknit forums comes from the top 5 search engines: Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, OpenAI, and Perplexity. Here are the highlights of what we’re seeing across the top 5 search engines: 🔹 Google is still the dominant leader, with 93% of all internet traffic. 🔹 OpenAI is currently sitting at 2% of traffic, just behind DuckDuckGo, a dominant player in privacy-first search. 🔹 But don’t count out AI. OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Perplexity are the fastest-growing search engines at 99% and 49%, respectively. 🔹 Then there’s Bing... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My top takeaways:

  1. 1.

Google is not going anywhere. Stop thinking it’s over for them. It’s not. Search continues to grow YoY, and Google remains the leader.

  2. 2.

ChatGPT and Perplexity are in their nascent days. While they do not command a large part of their market, their growth rates are 3-6x greater than Google’s growth rate. Momentum is on their side.

  3. 3.

Discussion Forums continue to be a massive source of growth for Search. AI continues to obliterate the niche blog market, and forums continue to rise as trusted sources (think Reddit, Quora). Keep those tightknit-heart Tightknit sites humming!
