I thought there was a way to bulk-add people to a tightknit enabled channel – but now I'm not finding it. Did I make this feature up in my head or did I just forget how to do this?

You didn't make it up! 😄 There's two options for this actually through slash commands:
/invite-all→ invites everyone in the workspace to that channel
/invite-channel #other-channel→ pulls everyone from another channel into the current one
