Benefits of Dedicated Slack Channels for In-Person Events

What does everyone think in terms of spinning up dedicated Slack channels in your community surrounding an (in-person) event? Have you seen success with it? Do you sunset them after a given time period? I'm conscious of creating a bunch of one-off slack channels that we then either need to maintain or just sit without any engagement.
We're thinking about it for our Customer Advisory Boards, so its a small group and ideally a good way to keep people connected after they all meet each other at the meeting, however our CAB participants changes each time (bi-annual meetings), so I dont want to make it an ever green channel
My thoughts are to leave CAB channels forever. Often I find there are opportunities during a mid-cycle to ask them a poll or propose an opportunity that they will want to take on
We do this for our conferences and for bigger industry conferences where a lot of our members attend
we typically name them as "temp-event-year"
We drop an @ channel in ours like this: Welcome all to our WTSFest Melbourne 2025 channel! ๐๐ฝ This channel is open for our WTSFest Melbourne attendees. It's a great chance to connect with one another pre-conference and ask for recommendations in the local area. Check out our Melbourne city guide to make the most out of your time at WTSFest: https://www.womenintechseo.com/blog/wtsfest-melbourne-city-guide/ Share your excitement on socials by creating your own custom attendee card and tagging us: https://getdp.co/t0A โก๏ธ Any questions related to tickets, drop [email protected] a note. Now onto you; please use this channel to introduce yourself - let us know:
Where are you traveling in from?
How many WTSFests have you attended before?
What are you most looking forward to?
For conferences that aren't ours we pin something like this: Welcome to our brightonSEO San Diego WTS attendees channel for September 2025! A few things for y'all! ๐ WTS Meet & Greet We'll have our own space, no RSVP, just show up! We always take a big group photo!

What are you most excited for at brightonSEO SD?
Anything this channel can help you with? (think: conference buddy, lunch / hotel recommendations, etc!)
We see a lot of success in it and it's a core part of our events:
Encouraging people to chat ahead of time, make plans, find a conference buddy - make the day more inviting, less stressful "doing it alone", and having a greater sense of belonging to enjoy the day
People share the event cards and help us drive more tickets
Organically - many share recommendations, ask questions, and take some of the FAQ lift off our team
For events that aren't ours: helps to strengthen member bonds who may not have been in person with WTS before
We can share quick pivots and answer quick questions in one place
Post event - really helps us increase feedback form submissions, gather testimonials, etc
We shut them down 1 to 2 weeks post event
Erin S. - thank you SO much, this is brilliant and something I'd love to build into our future event plans. I love that you give everyone clear actions to take for engagement, I think that may be a step we've missed in the past, resulting in lower engagement. Really appreciate you sharing!
