Best Practices for Displaying Events and Calendars in Slack: Canvas vs. Channel Posts

Question: How are we all displaying events/event calendars in Slack? Are you all using a Canvas? Or just posting to channels? I feel like just posting to channels isn’t effective for the average Slack user but my brain is out of creative ideas at the moment.

In the past I have used Notion as a calendar to showcase everything happening and then had that pinned + marked in slack as a canvas

Kaela A. how many events are you trying to show at a time? Most of our customers use the /events command or use Tightknit App Home to show the events to members (Try viewing it as a Member)

Stupid question: Do I need to have the event set up in TightKnit App?

To answer your question: I would say there are periods of each month where we have 2-3 events happening in a week. And I feel like they are burying each other in the event channel.

Lauren D. has a great method for this and has made some great videos on how to teach members how to register for events (she's also now available as a consultant!!)

At Contrarian, they have 30-40 events live at any given time in the community

Thanks for the shoutout, Zach! We had a google calendar that members could subscribe to where the Location was the Slack post from Tightknit. Another suggestion is doing a weekly Slack announcement with a list of that week's events. Directing members to the Tightknit app to see events in there is great, but it's nice to have other reminders or ways of integrating into their usual habits (like looking at google calendar, etc.)

I do a weekly recap post in Slack but I also have an events page on our community site. Sometimes the recap is a bit big like the attached but I've heard from members that they like the rhythm of the weekly post and all of the events we run. Maybe people find it overwhelming, but no one has ever told directly 😆

i feel like slack needs to make "Calendar" one of the element items. if they allow tables in canvases, they can surely allow cals (say me, knowing nothing about being a PM)

You could build a canvas template with a table on it to act as a calendar in your community.
